Betty Jean (BeJe) Clark, an Iowa legislator, writer and educator, had a strong religious background and spent much of her early career working for the Methodist Church. She has also been a columnist and compiler of Christian reference works. From 1976, Clark served for fourteen years in the Iowa House of Representatives, championing causes such as prison reform, services for abused children, and living will legislation.
